Dengue Prevention Campaign by the Division of Olongapo City

In accordance to the Division Memorandum No. 331, s. 2015, the Department of Education (DepEd) in collaboration with the Department of Health (DOH) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) led the implementation of Brigada Kalinisan and Dengue Prevention Campaign in schools on November 02-08.

School heads were instructed to implement a school-wide cleaning program as a preventive measure in combating dengue ensuring that all school facilities have been thoroughly cleaned, Insecticide-Treated Screens/Curtains (ITC’s) were installed over the classroom windows of selected schools, information campaign against Dengue H-fever was conducted and also referral of students and personnel with symptoms of Dengue H-fever to the health center or hospitals.

Green campaign and disease control

Due to the rising cases of diseases in the school such as chicken pox and dengue, it became imperative for RSHS-III to conduct a school-wide clean-up drive that will lessen the chances of infection propagation.  It was spearheaded by the Science and Social Studies Department of the school.

“Conducting a clean-up drive like this will benefit not only the affected students but everyone, because each and every one’s health depends on the environment’s sanitation,” Mr. John Alvin Abanes, YES-O Adviser stated.

An interview with the Department of Education (DepEd) officials of the Division of Olongapo, was also conducted to serve as a crucial basis for the selection of the most outstanding educators.

Meanwhile, Ms. Tagulao said that it is all about the passion and willingness to teach.

“Receiving an award is just a bonus, just seeing people appreciating you is already a very important award for me,” she said.

Ms. Lea Ann Pitogo, a Science teacher, was also awarded as RSHS III’s “Super Teacher sa Mata ng mga Mag-aaral” conducted for the first time by the Federation of Supreme Student Government (SSG) of the division after garnering the highest number of votes of the student body.

“It was surprising! A teacher’s task is not only to feed the brain but to mold the students holistically and I was really overwhelmed as my students appreciated me not only as their teacher but as their friend. I love teaching, I love the students and I will continue to value them as my treasures,” Pitogo said as she thanked her co-teachers who helped and inspired her to be a ‘Super Teacher’.

By Joe Manzano

August 27, 2015

With their main purpose to lessen the damages brought by typhoons and storms in the City of Olongapo, the young scientists of RSHS-III behind the investigatory project entitled as “iFlood: Improvised Flood Alarm and Warning Device” grabbed the 1st place in the Regional Invention Contests and Exhibits (RICE) held in San Fernando City, Pampanga last August 25-27.

The young investigators were Precious Derain, Rannie Magno, Lovella Sto. Domingo, Audrey Mangibunong, Luisa Templo, Andrew Manglicmot, and Joseph Marpuri.

“I had an overwhelming feeling of fear brought about by several factors... It was my first competition as a research adviser, and we garnered 3rd the last time RICE was held, I can only imagine the building pressure.

Then finally, when iFlood was announced winners, it was surreal. But it was humility before God that dominated all feelings within me. I felt but a speck, given the spotlight for a moment,” Mrs. Jovilyn Arevalo, Research adviser, stated.

The iFlood team will advance to the National Invention Contests and Exhibits (NICE) which will be held on July
